Performance
With vast experience in producing periodicals, WRP has
already developed an extensive system for dealing with production schedules,
deadlines, material handling, and database management. WRP is currently
producing a total of 78 magazines per year, plus calendars, books, and
peripheral printed items, making WRP the largest supplier of railroad
historical society publications in the U.S. today. A WRP-produced magazine,
calendar, or other significant publication goes to press on average every
3.4 calendar days.
Each publication has a detailed task calendar with deadlines
for each of the dozens of tasks it takes to ensure that the publication
stays on time, every time. WRP prides itself in the highest quality product
delivered in a timely manner, and we have the best track record of any
historical society publisher in recent history. Every one of our nine
clients has a magazine that's up-to-date. The task calendar itself is based
on the lead times required to be sure that various writers, advertising
personnel, and photographers know when items are due for each specific
issue.
Additionally, we have a shipping task calendar for the
various distribution tasks associated with WRP's periodical publications.
WRP's sales and fulfillment department uses this to be sure that each
client's products are shipped according to plan and schedule, and helps
ensure that every item is mailed correctly and on time.
Finally, WRP has developed a specific Project Sheet for each
client that tells our staff what the requirements are for each periodical.
For example, the C&NWHS requires us to hold
North Western Lines for two weeks
after we've mailed them to the membership before we mail them to the hobby
shops--The MRHA requires The Milwaukee
Railroader to be held for three weeks. That type of information
is included on each magazine's Project Sheet.
